Independent Schools of the Year Awards 2024 winner LuxLife Private Education Awards 2026: Best Independent Preparatory School – London

Broomwood Prep – Girls is an independent girls’ prep school in South West London, educating girls aged 7 to 13 on Nightingale Lane. As one of the few all-girls schools in London to offer a genuinely single-sex classroom alongside a shared social and academic life with Broomwood Prep – Boys. Each girl who comes through our doors is given the chance to be stretched academically and stimulated creatively, while never losing the close pastoral relationships that come from a school that knows each pupil well. Led by Mrs Louisa McCafferty, Broomwood Girls combines academic ambition with outstanding pastoral care.

The best way to understand Broomwood Girls is to visit. Join our next Open Morning on Friday 2 October 2026, from 10.00 am to 12.30 pm, including a dedicated talk on the Prep years from the Head of Broomwood Girls, Mrs Louisa McCafferty.

Why Choose an All-Girls Prep School?

Broomwood is one of only a handful of girls’ independent schools in the country to offer a genuinely single-sex classroom, with the opportunity for girls to collaborate with Broomwood Boys for academic extension and social and sporting activities. This balance means girls benefit from focused, tailored teaching while still growing up in a rounded, socially confident environment – a distinction many all-girls private schools in London don’t offer.

  • Confidence and independence, nurtured through a close-knit, supportive community
  • Leadership opportunities across House events, clubs and school roles
  • Strong academic achievement, reflected in consistent scholarship success
  • Personal development built on kindness, resilience and self-belief
  • A supportive learning environment, described by our Head as ‘big enough to stretch and stimulate, yet small enough to know and support each individual’
  • Thorough preparation for future success, academically and personally

Outstanding Pastoral Care

We are proud, above all, of our pastoral care. A dedicated tutorial system ensures there is always an adult at school – out of the home – who takes a real interest in every girl’s triumphs, disasters and achievements. Broomwood is not a hot house: we want every girl to thrive without feeling the pressures too many face at this age.

  • Genuine, ongoing wellbeing support
  • A consistent form tutor for every girl
  • Proactive emotional support through PSHE and pastoral programmes
  • Confidence-building through drama, public speaking and sport
  • Attentive, small class sizes
  • Individual attention from staff who know every girl well
