At Broomwood, we offer an extensive extra-curricular programme to complement and enhance our children’s timetabled lessons.

Extra-curricular clubs, activities, trips and workshops help develop our pupils’ ability to work side by side and build a sense of community.

One of the many ways we provide an inspiring and well-rounded education for our children is through a rich programme of trips and excursions.

From Little Broomwood and Pre-Prep to the Prep Boys and Prep Girls, all our pupils benefit from trips, tours and excursions. In the Pre-Prep, each year group goes on at least one excursion every year. Destinations have included Holly Lodge, Syon Park, The Horniman Museum, Chaulkney Meadows to the Museum of Childhood.

In the Prep School, excursions and longer co-educational residential trips play a vital part in broadening the experience we offer. All year groups have at least four one-day excursions each year, the purpose being to cover all the areas of the curriculum during a pupil’s time in the school.

Longer field trips assist in developing self-confidence – several trips are compulsory and others voluntary including a ski trip, hockey trip, choir and national sports tours.

Children benefit from different voices and different perspectives and to extend classroom boundaries, we organise several in-school workshops for pupils. These are delivered by specialists and help pupils to appreciate that subjects and topics are often interrelated. The workshops are often presented in a co-educational setting so that our Broomwood Prep – Boys and Broomwood Prep – girls learn alongside each other, and benefit from working together on extension projects.

The workshops complement our trips and excursions and are linked to topics being covered in the curriculum.

Recent workshops have included:

  • Florence Nightingale
  • Forces
  • Clued Up
  • Environmental Challenge
  • Fire of London
  • Weather
  • The Saxons and the Romans

All Broomwood pupils benefit greatly from these hands-on educational experiences they take part in throughout the year.

We offer a wide range of after-school clubs at Broomwood, which vary across the year. Parents and children are notified about club options and book them at the start of each term.

Broomwood Pre – Prep (Year 1-3)

From Year 1 at Broomwood Pre-Prep, children may can stay after school to take part in diverse activities such as karate, chess, flamenco dancing, computer club, cricket, golf, ballet, dance, jewellery-making, art and crafts or cookery. The clubs programme changes every term and we encourage our children to have a go at a wide variety of different activities.

Clubs run from Monday-Thursday generally from 3.45-4.45. There is a charge – typically around £110 per term – but it can be a little more where higher costs are involved (for example external teachers or when travel is involved). The children are given tea at school before they start their clubs.
