‘We try our best to save everyone we can’

Staff Nurse Nicole Sproul joined us at Broomwood Girls today to thank the school for raising over £50,000 for St George’s Hospital appeals.  Over this last year children and parents have held fundraising events to support the work with patients and staff across all departments. Nicole, who had joined us straight from completing a night shift, told the children about her work and about the 8000 staff required to keep the hospital running.

When asked how many beds the children thought the hospital had, one of our younger girls said
“Five million?”
Nicole thought that we should suggest this to Rishi Sunak, but in reality there are 1,300.

The girls also asked her about careers in the NHS and she explained that training to be a doctor is very thorough and very long (seven years). The children wanted to know if any of Nicole’s patients had ever died. She explained,
“Sadly yes, but we try our best to save everyone we can.”

Thank you Nicole for coming to see us.  What an inspiration you are to our girls!
